The Land Between The Lakes

So far we have been able to explore The Land Between The Lakes inland and via waterway.

The land area has a ton to do – hiking/biking trails, camping, Elk and Bison Refuge and much more.

One of probably thirty in the herd we drove by. These guys and girls do not smell great, windows up for sure.

The water area consists of Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake. We have anchored out on both. Our experience thus far has been great swimming in Kentucky Lake and epic sunsets from Lake Barkley.

Thank you Costco for the impulse SUP buy before we left Portland.

Penny’s first time on a SUP.

It’s hot and humid – you find shade where you can.

This last week we crossed off several more of the larger boat projects on our list – replacing a window and replacing the swim step rub rail. Both had damage from the previous owner. Being on a covered dock helped tremendously, can not imagine doing that work in the hot hot sun.

We also had help from professionals this week in preparing Heartbeat. First the AC guy got our 3 AC units flushed and running a bit more efficiently. Second, there is a great canvas guy Grand Rivers who built us a bimini but he also put together a pretty cool stainless lift to help us move our outboard engine for the dingy from the upper deck down to the water. The engine being 85 lbs and awkward shaped is a bit tough to wrangle by hand so this lift is pretty sweet to have. A dingy is important to us – when at anchor it lets us explore, get the dog to shore etc.
